The B&B you choose may have quite an interesting and quaint surrounding in and of itself. B&B owners often operate their accommodations out of a love for people. They understand the nuances between welcoming, hosting and entertaining or keeping a fine line between that and a quiet and peaceful rest stop along your travels. Sometimes travelers decide on an attraction to visit or other focal point for their travels and look for a B&B along the way that will broaden their trip into a vacation with an additional adventure attached. Clarington Country in Durham Region has several attractions that draw visitors from all over, one of the major ones being the Mosport International Raceway just north of Bowmanville Ontario or for natural vistas and birdwatching try Purple Woods Conservation Area. |

Ian and Luverne Baron of Model A Acres B&B -7090 Middle Rd. Bowmanville 905-263-4319 have created just such an adventure surrounding their country B&B near Mosport. Ian has turned a hobby of building replicas of vintage airplanes into a place to wander and admire. At first glance the airplanes look quite authentic, at second glance, and after an explanation you see that they have been put together with salvaged parts, and not always those from aircraft, but large apple juice tins or struts made out of fence tubing. Meanwhile Luverne stirs up something 'delish' for breakfast in her almost complete, designer kitchen. Whether you are visiting the area attractions, attending a race at Mosport, or just want to relax Model A Acres has some great rooms just for you. Ian and Luverne are gracious hosts and have a very special retreat for you, from a short trip to a honeymoon. Bridgett Nickerson, Miss Canada 2010; chose Model A Acres to spend a relaxing couple of days while attending events in the Durham Region last fall. Miss Canada attended A Victorian Ball fundraising event for the Whitby History Museum. |

This year's Clarington Country B&B tour was held on June 7th at the Willow Pond Country B&B where many catered events from weddings to tours to epicurean lunches are held each year. The whole setting seemed storybook like, the pretty as a picture tables with white linens were set up on the spacious verandah, in the music room and dining room for two sittings as well as in a white tent in the garden. Hosts Lynn and Randy Morrison were constantly busy making sure all the guests were served to the larger than ever crowd of tour goers who purchased tickets to the gourmet luncheon prepared by Chanterelle Bistro Chefs Marita and Derek. Luncheon consisted of Chicken Supreme braised in red wine sauce with mushroom, prociutto and onion, served with Anna potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Dessert was a delicious chocolate mousse cake. Net proceeds for the luncheon went to Ontario Community Emergency Assistance Program (OCEAP) We enjoyed our lunch in these lovely surroundings, carried off to serene places in the mind while a violinist played and the resident cat sat on a window sill after coming out to greet us. He seemed non-plussed at the crowd, quite accustomed to the company, more than happy to welcome us to 'his' abode. |
