Ken Lancaster, Oshawa Family Lawyer

Ken Lancaster saves a little piece of Oshawa history!

It takes time to move a house and get it settled in a new place...here is one such story.

In 2006 Oshawa lawyer, Ken Lancaster’s home and office located on Division Street in Oshawa Ontario were bought by the city to make way for the new Durham Region Court House development project.Lancaster Law Office being moved to new location

Ken, a family lawyer, and his wife Monica, a nurse practitioner, had bought the home next door to their home on Division Street and Ken had located his office there. It had the convenience of a home based business with the professional image of a commercial office complex. The back of the home and office was landscaped into a beautiful garden with a plum tree as its focal point from which every year, Monica made traditional European plum cake for friends, sort of like a pizza only topped with delicious plums and whipped cream. If you have ever been in Paris, Frankfurt, or Vienna, this is a delicacy paraded out each year during plum season.

Then one day they received a letter in the mail saying that both their home and office properties were to be taken over to make room for an adjacent development and that they would have to find other accommodations. It was quite a shock! But taking everything into consideration, they pulled up stakes and made their moves …but not without saving the office.

Ken bought another piece of property at 89 Ontario Street and had the building moved to its new location.

It you have ever watched an old building being moved, it is quite an interesting and exciting thing to see. Today, the building rests comfortably on its new foundation a few blocks away. Ken continues to help his many clients in his family law practice.

“It is not the same as it was being next door to home,” says Ken, but it feels good to have saved this old Oshawa house. It has a quiet sort of atmosphere that you can only get in an older home and my clients find the peacefulness in this transient world comforting.”

Yes, though we live in an age of instant communications, social media, and tweeting you can look around at new malls like the one at Don Mills Plaza in Toronto and you will see that many of the décor themes involve a curious mixture of new architecture and an endeavor to capture some of the charm of yesteryear. Just because, I think, we all want to have that ‘aroma of home’ and the feelings of security it evokes. Lancaster Law Office shortly after being moved to its new location.

Ken Lancaster specializes in Family Law

Many people these days consider Lancaster House Spring 2010 a family lawyer only when going through some sort of family crisis such as a separation or divorce. Although this is a good reason, there are other reasons to consider an ongoing relationship with a family lawyer.

In our rushed and ever changing world where people change careers, homes, cities and even whole lives, it is often good to have someone whom you know and trust that you can go to for advice in one thing and another over the years as they arise.

Someone who knows you! And can act as a legal councilor or advisor during odd times even in the most balanced of families.

One person had a family emergency with an elderly parent who was living in another city who had early stages of Aldsheimers Disease and who had been ‘befriended’ by a stranger and suddenly found themselves in a situation where this person was controlling their life. Fortunately they had a family lawyer, Ken Lancaster, who had known the family for quite awhile and was able to help get things straightened out.

Family law in Ontario covers a wide range of complex family-related issues including marriage, common law couples, separations, divorces, child custody, spousal and child support, and property division.

Mr. Lancaster has many years of experience in these legal areas to expertly assist and advise you of your rights.
