Though there are varying levels, from swimming for pure pleasure to swimming in competitions, watching people swim is almost as much fun as swimming yourself. The way the water bubbles up around the swimmers, water splashing for a split second, water in motion and then settling down to a relative calm again.
Astoria Magazine had the opportunity to be at the Rainbow Swim Meet at The Pickering Recreation Complex in April, where competition was stiff for varying medals. It was all a lot of fun seeing the different reactions of parents and coaches to the young swimmers. Through the organized pandemonium, somehow, swimmers, judges, coaches and parents seemed to take it all in stride and have a good time, despite the pressures.
We were there urging on the small son of a friend of ours whose coach was Andy Markov of Markov Aquatics. It was really great to watch Markov encouraging the children. You could tell that although there was a firmness to his voice, Markov's style of coaching was warm and encouraging and the kids really looked up to him.
During The Canadian National Master Games in May, 2005 the Markov Aquatics Swim Club is proud to have its first Canadian Champion. One of the Markov Aquatics Swim Club swimmers took four gold and two silver medals.
Andy Markov is passionate about swimming and helping the children he teaches to benefit from what swimming has to offer, health, exercise, self esteem and the ability to achieve goals.
Markov Aquatics Swim Club aims to help both children and adults have a better life, mentally and physically through swimming.
