Dedicated to preserving the history and pre-history of the Lake Scugog area, the museum regularly hosts many fun events with an educational theme. Plan your Museums tour in Port Perry, then have a look at all the other things to delight the traveller in Port Perry and Scugog Island. |

Among other events and tours, this June 2009 to September 30, 2009 there is an Ojibway Heritage Interpretive Lands Exhibit in partnership with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island, the First Nation was established in 1998. The goal of this collaboration was to create the Ojibway Heritage Interpretive Lands (OHIL), an exhibit that interprets the natural and cultural history of the Scugog Watershed prior to European settlement. The collection of trees and plants forms a representative slice of the species that flourished throughout the area at that time. Also on display in the summer is a traditionally built wigwam, birch-bark canoe, ash-splint baskets and a collection of First Nations lithics and pottery. |

Above are some of the buildings which hold historic displays at Scugog Shores Museum. The Shores of Lake Scugog hold fascinating possibilities for your family’s enjoyment either for a day trip or and extended vacation. The Town of Port Perry itself is a magnet all year long for shoppers looking for something unique and an experience to go with it. No two shops carry the same merchandise. There are many things to do and see on the shores of lake Scugog. Scugog Island Cruises in ‘The Woodman’ a newly custom built 100-passenger vessel is an experience the whole family will enjoy and remember. The Woodman is the largest boat launched in Lake Scugog in over seventy years. Make sure you put on your walking shoes and go along the Port Perry ‘Waterfront Trail’.
'Our Past is Showing' is an upcoming exhibit this September. Artists have chosen Artifacts to write about, paint or otherwise use as inspiration for their art creations. Artists are now busily working towards the show. Plan to visit Scugog Shores Museum and see the results, surely to be an interesting display! Read one artist's musings on the subject. |
Scugog Shores Historical Museum and Archives is located on Scugog Island just east across the crossway from Port Perry.
