Village Card & Gift Shoppe
On the Main Street, Newcastle Village, Ontario
Jacqueline Kent, visits the Village Card & Gift Shoppe.
Jacqueline Kent, famed sculptor made a very special appearance at The Village Card & Gift Shoppe in Newcastle Village. Jacqueline's visits to historic and quaint Newcastle Village have offered inspiration for her art. Two of her sculptures were inspired by people in Newcastle.
Joan Kimball owner of Village Card & Gift Shoppe has an angelic face and when Jacqueline Kent, saw her, she just had to create a doll with Joan's face. And thus was born, 'Ladies of Society' a fun duo of two friends, Joan & Angela. Angela is in the red hat below, Joan kicking up her heels in the red shoes, both immortalized in clay with the characteristics only Jacqueline Kent can portray. Below, Jacqueline demonstrates the sculpting of a figurine.

On September 15th a steady stream of collectors flowed through the Village Card & Gift Shoppe, both buying and bringing their precious collections in to be signed by the artist herself!
One woman's husband had surprised her with a graduation figure, an original Jacqueline Kent sculpture in honour of her graduation. She proudly brought it in to have it signed and the resemblance, created from a photograph, was amazing as you can see in the photograph on this page.
Jaqueline Kent graciously posed with many of the visitors as well as a special photograph taken with her 'Ladies of Society' muses, Joan & Angela. The 'Ladies of Society' figurines have become one of Jacqui's largest selling in North America. Joan's store was filled with many of Jacqui's figurines, angels, Santas, and elves among others.

People came from as far away as Quebec and Western Ontario for the signing and opportunity to meet with Jacqueline.
Jacqueline Kent, like her creations is a pixie-ish light hearted soul with a marvellous little twinkle in her eye. Her hands create before your eyes, a whimsical face. When asked how she began her career, Jacqui replied, " I was playing with clay thinking to make some earrings, when my then little son pleaded with me to make him a face." I discovered a talent right there for carving out facial features, and the rest is history!"
Each sculpture is lovingly clothed according to Jacqui's direction and a poem or saying is written by her long time assistant Patty Smith.
